A Word from Bro Steve

Message From Bro Steve

February is usually a very….relaxed month. It, of course, is the shortest month, usually the coolest month, (in Lufkin we don’t have cold months) and things are kind of slow.

But, February is always a month of preparation. It is a month where we, as people, can catch our breath and make plans for the rest of the year. We, as a church will be doing just that. Lent starts in March, and we will have an Ash Wednesday service at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, March 6. We will use the entire month of March to get ready for Holy Week and Easter, which falls in mid-April.

We will also prepare for summer programs such as VBS for Grownups. And, we will have some special Sundays coming in February. We will have a Valentine’s party also, so church – get ready!

Jesus tells us that same thing over and over. Even in times where things aren’t as chaotic, use that time to prepare. The Kingdom of God is here, let’s start living (and Loving) like it. Bring people to church. How do you do that? There are two basic ways:

  1. You hold the person hostage by either gun or knifepoint. I strongly discourage this method as it causes extremely bad public relations, and you seldom have repeat visitors.
  2. You invite them. Try saying such lines as “I think you really might enjoy our worship service. Would you like to join me on Sunday?”

We are relaxed, but we are preparing.

Go-Fight-Win. Amen.

Bro Steve

St. Paul’s UMC Host Cook N Serve on Second Street

Saturday St. Paul’s members hosted the Second Street Cook N Serve, serving chill and cornbread. Health kits and clothing were given to all who came for this truly free lunch. As always everyone received a blessing especially those who had the privilege of serving this meal. Join us next month for your own chance to serve others through this ministry of love on Second Street.
